The Road Beyond Primary School

For children in Cambodia’s remote forests, the path of learning often stops too soon. When the first students in Romchek and Koh Ker proudly finished Grade 6, there was nowhere else to go, no high school within reach. Their education, and their dreams, risked ending at the gates of primary school.
Before 2020, only a handful of these graduates could continue on. They lived in our dormitory in Srayang to attend secondary school, but space was limited. Most had no way forward.

So we helped change the story. The dormitories evolved into a Learning Centre and three sturdy trucks were bought. Now, each morning, those trucks rumble down red dirt roads to collect students from both villages, bringing them to school and back home again.

For the first time, every student who passes the entrance exam can continue their education through Grade 12, while staying with their families.

And it doesn’t stop there. In 2023 and 2024, the very first PLF Canada Srayang graduates set out for Phnom Penh to begin their university degrees.

A bridge was built, not of concrete, but of opportunity, carrying young people toward futures that once seemed impossible. Every kilometer travelled, every lesson learned, pushes back against poverty and opens new doors.
